Will Draft Preparation - Dubai

Why the draft matters more than the appointment

The DIFC Courts Wills Service registers wills but does not draft them and gives no legal advice, so everything turns on the text you bring to the signing appointment. A strong draft settles four decisions in plain language: who carries out the instructions as executor, who cares for minor children as guardian, who receives what as beneficiary, and how each asset passes on distribution.

What vagueness costs years later

Leave any of the four vague and the question is left for the courts to answer years later. Our work starts with a single conversation about your family, your assets and your wishes — passports, property deeds, accounts, policies and the names of your chosen people — and ends with a clean signing copy built to the authority checklist.

How the draft is prepared

We prepare the will in English and Arabic and walk through it with you line by line, so every clause means what you intend before anyone signs. Note that the signing appointment itself requires a basic grasp of English, as translators are not accepted in the room, and the registration authority confirms which language version governs.

Mirror wills and translated papers

Spouses cannot make one joint will, but we draft matched mirror wills for a single joint appointment, each spouse attending with their own witnesses. Where an existing will is in another language, our wills translation service renders it into the form an Arabic-reading authority can act on.

Keeping the will current after signing

Wills here have no codicils: any change means editing the text and signing and registering an entirely new will at a modification appointment, currently AED 550. Marriage revokes a will entirely unless intent to marry was stated in it, and divorce voids gifts to the former spouse — both worth knowing before you sign, not after life changes. Once the draft is registered, distribution follows through the formal estate process, and our probate team handles applications through the Dubai Courts when the time comes.

What a proper draft gives you

The DIFC Courts Wills Service does not draft wills and gives no legal advice. The words must be right before the signing appointment, and that is what the draft is for.

Four decisions, fixed in writing

Executor, guardians, beneficiaries, and distribution settled in plain language, so no question is left for the courts to guess at.

English and Arabic, understood line by line

You review the draft with us line by line in both languages, and the registration authority confirms which version governs at signing.

Mirror wills for spouses

Two separate wills prepared together for a single joint appointment, each spouse attending with their own witnesses.

Registration-ready from day one

The draft is built to the authority checklist, so the signing appointment confirms wishes instead of uncovering gaps.

When this service is NOT what you need

Drafting is not always the next step. Four cases where something else fits better.

  • You need Sharia-share calculations

We do not calculate prescribed shares for Muslim estates. Take specialist advice on entitlements first, then our Muslim wills service drafts within those bounds.

  • Your draft is already signed and final

If the text is settled and only the record is missing, skip drafting and go straight to our DIFC wills registration service.

  • You only need an existing will translated

Drafting writes a new will. If the will exists and an Arabic authority must read it, our wills translation page is the right request.

  • The testator has already passed

Drafting serves the living. Once death has occurred, the estate needs our probate section, not a new will.

Drafted with help versus on your own

Anyone may arrive at the registry with the official template. The difference is what the text actually settles before you sign it.

Who writes it

With SRAG

We draft the full text to your instructions, since the registry states plainly that it does not draft wills.

On your own

You fill in the official template yourself or hire a draftsman separately and hope the clauses hold.

Completeness check

With SRAG

Executor, guardians, beneficiaries, and distribution are each fixed explicitly, with vagueness removed before signing.

On your own

You decide what counts as complete, and any vague clause surfaces only at probate, years later.

Bilingual review

With SRAG

English and Arabic drafts walked through with you line by line until every line means what you intend.

On your own

You sign an English text you may only half follow, with translators barred from the signing room.

Mirror wills

With SRAG

Both spouses' wills drafted as a matched pair for one joint appointment, with separate witnesses arranged per spouse.

On your own

You coordinate two consistent wills and two witness sets yourself, with no single joint will permitted.

Starting papers

With SRAG

We confirm the exact starting list at the first meeting, from passports and deeds to existing wills and marriage contracts.

On your own

You assemble passports, asset lists, and names from the published guidance and learn of gaps by rejection.

Later changes

With SRAG

We keep the AED 550 modification route and the marriage and divorce effects on file, and re-draft cleanly when life changes.

On your own

You remember the no-codicils rule and the revocation triggers unaided when you marry, divorce, or acquire assets.

Why SRAG Wills for Will Drafting

Drafting is where an estate is won or lost, years before anyone reads the will. Our role is precision on paper and honesty about limits.

Drafting is the core work

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the steps from first call to registered will?

Four steps. 1. A conversation about your family and wishes. 2. Drafting in English and Arabic, reviewed with you line by line. 3. Signing with witnesses. 4. Registration with the DIFC Courts Wills Service or ADJD. We stay with you through all four.

Who actually drafts my will — you or the Wills Service?

We do. The DIFC Courts Wills Service states plainly that it is not in a position to provide legal advice and does not draft wills. You arrive with a draft — prepared by us, or from the official template, or by a lawyer on the register of Wills Draftsmen. Our drafting fee is separate from the registry's registration fee and is quoted at consultation.

What must a good will fix?

Four things. Your executor — who carries out the instructions. Your guardians — who cares for minor children. Your beneficiaries — who receives what. And distribution — how each asset passes. A draft that leaves any of the four vague leaves work for the courts.

Which language is the official one?

We prepare your will in English and Arabic so you understand every line. Note that the DIFC Courts Wills Service requires a basic grasp of English at the signing appointment — translators are not accepted. The registration authority confirms which version governs at signing.

Can my spouse and I make one joint will?

No — but you can make mirror wills — two separate wills, signed in a single joint appointment. Each spouse attends with their own witnesses. Mirror registration carries its own fee column in the official schedule, as of October 2026.

What if I need to change my will later?

There are no codicils. Any change means editing the text and signing and registering an entirely new will at a modification appointment — the registry fee is AED 550, as of October 2026. Marriage revokes a will entirely unless intent to marry was stated in it; divorce voids gifts to the ex-spouse.

What do you need from me to start?

Four things. 1. Your passport and Emirates ID. 2. A list of your assets — property deeds, accounts, shares, policies. 3. The names of your beneficiaries, guardians, and executor. 4. Any existing will or marriage contract. We confirm the exact list at the first meeting.
