Will Draft Preparation

A will begins as a draft, where wishes become exact written instructions. The ADJD Civil Wills Section registers civil wills on its official template, but the instructions inside it — executor, guardians, beneficiaries, distribution — are yours to define, and they must be right before the file goes in.

SRAG Wills prepares the draft in English and Arabic — fixing executor, guardians for minor children, beneficiaries, and distribution — and reviews it with you line by line, including mirror wills for spouses. Our drafting fee is separate from ADJD’s fees and is quoted clearly before work begins.

How your draft is prepared

1

You tell us about your family, your assets, and your wishes. One meeting, in person or by phone.

2

Drafting

We prepare your will in plain language, in English and Arabic, and walk through it with you line by line.

3

Signing copy

You receive a clean signing copy, ready for the ADJD Civil Wills Section application and probate appointment.

Disclaimer: SRAG Wills is a wills consultancy, not a law firm or government body. Registration is completed with the DIFC Courts Wills Service or ADJD; estate and inheritance cases are filed with the Dubai Courts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the steps from first call to registered will?

Four steps. 1. A conversation about your family and wishes. 2. Drafting in English and Arabic, reviewed with you line by line. 3. Signing with witnesses. 4. Registration with the DIFC Courts Wills Service or ADJD. We stay with you through all four.

Who actually drafts my will — you or ADJD?

We prepare your instructions; ADJD registers the result. The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department registers civil wills on its official bilingual template — it does not plan your estate with you. We work out your executor, guardians, beneficiaries, and distribution with you first, then complete the template so it is ready to register. Our drafting fee is separate from ADJD's registration fee and is quoted at consultation.

What must a good will fix?

Four things. Your executor — who carries out the instructions. Your guardians — who cares for minor children. Your beneficiaries — who receives what. And distribution — how each asset passes. A draft that leaves any of the four vague leaves work for the court.

Which language is the official one?

The ADJD Civil Wills Section works with forms in Arabic and English, and we prepare your draft in both so you understand every line. Note that documents not in Arabic must be translated by a translation office certified by the Ministry of Justice, and foreign-issued documents must be attested — we handle the paperwork trail before you file.

Can my spouse and I make one joint will?

No — registration is per testator. We prepare two separate wills that mirror each other, so each spouse's document says the same thing about the family, and each is registered in its own file.

What if I need to change my will later?

A change means filing the updated will with the Civil Wills Section again — ADJD also keeps an official revocation form. Fees for re-filing are not published the way the registration fees are; we confirm the current position with the section before anything is filed.

What do you need from me to start?

Four things. 1. Your passport and Emirates ID. 2. A list of your assets — property deeds, accounts, shares, policies. 3. The names of your beneficiaries, guardians, and executor. 4. Any existing will or marriage contract. We confirm the exact list at the first meeting.
