Executor & Estate Administration

Being named executor is an honour that arrives as a workload — banks that freeze on notification of death, utilities and tenancies that keep billing, visas that need canceling, and a file of authorities each wanting its own form in its own order. Most executors have never done it before, and the estate cannot wait while they learn.

SRAG Wills supports the appointed executor end to end — obtaining the court’s grant, presenting it to each bank for release, settling DEWA and utilities, closing or transferring the Ejari tenancy, canceling visas and liaising through PRO channels, and keeping the heirs informed at every stage until the estate is ready for distribution.

Authorities decide and their timetables govern; our work is the sequencing, paperwork, and follow-up that keeps every file moving at once.

How administration moves forward

1

Inventory

We list every asset, account, tenancy, utility, vehicle, and visa tied to the deceased — one file, nothing missed.

2

Authority

The court's grant is obtained, then presented to each asset-holder — banks first, then property, vehicles, and shares.

3

Closure

Utilities settled, Ejari closed or transferred, visas canceled or moved, and the estate ready for distribution.

Disclaimer: SRAG Wills is a wills consultancy, not a law firm or government body. Registration is completed with the DIFC Courts Wills Service or ADJD; estate and inheritance cases are filed with the Dubai Courts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an executor actually have to do?

Everything practical. Obtain the court's grant, present it to each bank to release the accounts, settle DEWA and other utilities, close or transfer the Ejari tenancy, cancel the deceased's visa and handle dependants' status, deal with vehicles, and keep every heir informed. It is a months-long administrative job on top of grief — we carry the paperwork so you can carry the family.

Can the executor act before the grant issues?

Only to preserve the estate — securing property, notifying the bank, arranging the funeral. No asset may be released, transferred, or distributed until the court issues the grant. Anything done early can be unwound, so the first discipline is patience.

What about the deceased's visa and dependants?

The deceased's residence visa must be canceled through the immigration authorities, and dependants sponsored by the deceased need their sponsorship transferred or their status regularised. Timelines here are administrative, not court-driven — we liaise with the PRO channel so nothing lapses.

Do you act as executor yourselves?

No — the executor is the person named in the will or appointed by the court. Our role is supporting that person: preparing each application, drafting each letter, attending each office in the right order, and keeping a single file the heirs can inspect.
